What's the History of Lady Margaret Hall?
Lady Margaret Hall was founded in June 1878, when the Association for the Higher Education of Women aimed for the creation of a college for women in Oxford. Edward Stuart Talbot, Warden of Keble College, insisted on a specifically Anglican institution and his group founded Lady Margaret Hall (while T. H. Green, a prominent liberal philosopher who was also a prominent member of the Association) founded Somerville College.
The college was named after Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, patron of scholarship and learning.
