The Alexander Library of Ornithology is one of the most important ornithological reference libraries in the world. It has 19th and 20th c. books, as well as pamphlets, periodicals, and ornithological notebooks and diaries.
The Alexander Library’s collections are held in the Bodleian’s Book Storage Facility (BSF) and the Weston Library. Any queries relating to the Alexander Library collections should be directed to sophie.wilcox@bodleian.ox.ac.uk.
What's the Alexander Library of Ornithology?
The Alexander Library of Ornithology is one of the most important ornithological reference libraries in the world. It has 19th and 20th c. books, as well as pamphlets, periodicals, and ornithological notebooks and diaries.
The collections are organised in three sections, which are sorted by method. These are:
- Type of bird
- Geographic region where the bird is found
- Bird behaviour and characteristics
This Library of Ornithology is an international resource accepting donations and exchanges from a variety of sources. The library enjoys a close relationship with the British Ornithologists’ Union and houses the British Falconers’ Club Library.
